We just got back to Adelaide after 9 weeks on the Gold Coast. Our first housesit up there was for 5 weeks and our job was to care for the house and garden. John had more work to do than I did until it started raining, then he didn’t have a lot to do either. We did some extra jobs also like pruning some plants and cleaning up dead overgrowth.
Our next petsit was much busier, but still in a Gold Coast suburb and this time pet sitting 2 small dogs and feeding cockateils in a very large aviary. We had 2 very sweet and loving dogs. Connor, a mini Schnauzer checked up on us all the time and I think he would be the more faithfull of the two of them. And there was pretty Bonnie, a Cavoodle, who was very soft to touch and cuddle.
Bonnie was more into herself than Connor and would keep tapping with 1 front paw if you didn’t pat her. She had the longest eyelashes I’ve seen on a dog, much like the false ones some women wear.
The owners worried us a bit because they said we might see snakes out in the back yard and we would see lots of cane toads. We weren’t concerned about the cane toads, but we definitely did not want to put them in the freezer. That seemed cruel. Anyway, we only saw one cane toad and it hopped away quickly! Thank goodness, we didn’t see any snakes.
We also had a large aviary of cockateils to feed with seed as well as veggies on the branches in the aviary. The property had a very long driveway so the NBN cable had a long way to travel. The internet hardly worked for the first 2 weeks, then an NBN repair person came out and discovered big bull ants inside the housing which was on a pole in the driveway. The poor guy came to the door rubbing his legs and arms because the ants had been trying to get up his sleeves and trouser legs. He asked me to leave the housing open until the ants were gone, then place the cables back inside and shut the door. I sprayed all the ants with Mortein, then put everything back in place. After that, the internet worked very well.
We’re back in Adelaide now staying in a lovely townhouse not far from the city and caring for 2 very young and energetic cats.
