We’ve been back on the Gold Coast for a few weeks now, doing a house sit looking after the garden and feeding a few wild birds and some fish in a pond outside. We obtained this sit before we left here, back in January. John and I both feel a bit strange without any dogs or cats in the house. Sometimes I’m sitting having a cuppa and I could swear there’s a cat or dog coming to see what I’m up to. But, of course, it’s just wishful thinking! John has been watering the large garden nearly every day because it hasn’t rained much up here. And we’ve done a bit of pruning and cleaning up some dead rubbish around some of the plants.
Our drive up here from Adelaide took a few days, because we came via Sydney so we could catch up with an Aunty and Uncle who I haven’t seen for a long long time. It was a good drive up especially once we got on the Pacific Highway south of Sydney, which is a dual highway all the way to the Gold Coast. It was great to travel on a road where it was much safer and easy to pass slower cars if required. Plus we bypassed all cities and towns which saves a lot of time. There was only one incident which was while John was driving. Suddenly a car 3 cars in front of us pulled over to the side and the car behind him screeched to a stop. John was driving too close to the car in front of him and had to pull over a bit to stop safely. Somehow or other the van behind us (who was too close to us) slipped out from behind us and then slipped in front and was able to stop. We wondered why the cars up front had stopped until I saw a tiny little wombat waddling across the highway in front of the first car. So, we all saved the wombat and somehow or other avoided a chain collision.
Back to our house sitting… Just before driving up here, we looked after a very playful little labradoodle for a few days. She was a lot of fun to watch and had lots of energy!
We have another 3 weeks here at Worongary and then we’re going to look after 2 little dogs in Gaven for a few weeks, before heading back to Adelaide.
