Our recent house sit in the Adelaide Hills was our favourite so far. Dave, a Cavoodle was the most unusual and most loving dog I’ve ever come across (please don’t tell any of the other dogs we’ve cared for :-).

One of our friends met him and said “Dave, what a cracker of a name for a dog”! I can’t remember the last time I heard that expression. I loved how soft his fur is and he always smelt nice, even after being in the rain outside.

Except for when he wanted to play outside, Dave followed one of us everywhere and didn’t like being left in a room on his own (even while sleeping).

However, when Dave wanted to play outside, he was very stubborn and would stand out there with a toy, staring at us to go out there with him. One of us would go out and throw his toys or the ball, but he never wanted us to stop. His mistress keeps him fit, so he walked up the very steep hills quickly, a bit too quick for me sometimes.

The birds here were spectacular also, especially when they got fed late in the afternoon.  So many of them, some squabbling and fighting for food and others sitting off a bit being affectionate with each other.

I wonder if all Cavoodles are like Dave? We’re looking after another one in a few weeks and then another one in November. We’ll see if they are as quirky as dear little Dave.  We’re looking forward to being his housemates again next year!

Cavoodles are they all lovable and quirky?
