Recently I looked after a tiny little 20 year old lady cat. She reminded me of one of our cats who lived until the ripe old age of 22 (we weren’t real sure of her age because she came from a shelter and they didn’t know her exact age).
Anyway little Misty spent most of her time on a little heat pad on the bed but every couple of hours she would venture out to her dinner table for a selection of 2 kinds of wet food and bickies. She eats a lot for such a tiny cat because she has an over active thyroid gland, which means she has a very high metabolism and can eat a lot without putting on weight. Her condition is controlled with some cream rubbed into one of her ears each night. I had the same condition when I was 12, so I went from being quite overweight to a very skinny teenager who could eat all the yummy cakes and biscuits my Grandma made without putting on any weight.
One night Misty came looking for me in the room next to hers. I think she was looking for her dinner because sometimes she gets a bit disorientated. She meows quite loudly sometimes, but it’s a strange sound. Apparently, cats gain or lose some tone in their voice as they age. I didn’t hear Misty when she was younger, but it seems she’s gained volume as she’s aged. It was a bit weird hearing that sound in the middle of the night. Here’s a short video of Misty looking for her dinner.
